Dojo Rules
Some key rules to assist all classes run smoothly and everyone gets the most out of their time at Funakoshi Karate
- Be on time for training
- Bow when entering or leaving the Dojo (training area)
- Do not wear shoes, eat, chew gum, drink (other than water) or smoke in the Dojo
- Remove ALL jewellery (including watches, earrings) before training
- Bring a named drink bottle to training and ensure you use it during breaks
- Keep your mitts and karate gi (uniform) clean and neat
- Keep finger and toe nails clean and short.
- Always address the instructor/s as Sensei or Sempai as appropriate
- Notify Sensei, before training commences, if you are nursing an injury or feeling unwell
- Notify Sensei if any injury is sustained during training
- If a bleeding injury occurs, notify Sensei and stop training until the bleeding has stopped, or the injured area has been taped/bandaged
- Help those less proficient or weaker than yourself
- Ask permission if you need to leave the Dojo during a session
- Never use karate to harm someone. Self defence is a last resort
- Take note of, and understand ALL karate notices: written and verbal
- Don’t do or say things that could harm your fellow karateka (students) or Funakoshi Karate
- Learn, understand and practice the five karate maxims: character, effort, etiquette, self control & sincerity
