Following a grading, students receive a white belt with coloured stripe – yellow, orange, green, blue, purple, 1st brown, 2nd brown, 3rd brown and finally black stripe. Once a student reaches black stripe (the highest level in this program), or turns 8, they can enrol in the ‘full’ Funakoshi Karate system – Kids Karate. Students are also ‘rewarded’ for commitment to training through a merit badge program. At the end of each month, provided they have attended a minimum of 60% of the training sessions, they receive a merit badge.

Kinder Karate

Benefits of Kinder Karate

Physical activity is important in the development of a child’s health and wellbeing, forming the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. Through Kinder Karate skills and disciplines are learnt resulting in a challenging and enjoyable activity. Kinder Karate improves fitness, strength, flexibility and general body conditioning in a structured format. This enables children to channel their energies into positive outcomes, improving mental discipline and concentration.

The Kinder Karate Program

Our Kinder Karate program introduces young children (ages 3-4) to karate training in a fun, structured setting. Light exercises, stretching and karate basics are taught. Activities involve following the instructor’s directions, learning dojo (class room) etiquette and self-control. Games and exercises help to develop strength, coordination and balance, This class provides a foundation for karate training in our subsequent Peewee Karate (5-7 years) and Kids Karate (8-12 Years).
Once a month students are recognised for their efforts (based primarily on attendance) and awarded a coloured ‘belt badge’ There are nine coloured badges to collect and each colour follows the formal karate ranking system in the more senior classes.
